    Responsibilities

    Overall Function

     

    Environmental Defense Fund is seeking a full-time, highly-motivated and hands-on Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) who has a solid foundation in all strategic and functional aspects of Human Resources.  The position is located in EDF’s San Francisco office and will report directly to the Senior Director, Global, based in New York. 

     

    The HRBP serves as a consultant and strategic partner to program and/or department management on human resources issues both domestic and international. The HRBP will need to critically assess and anticipate HR-related needs and be able to communicate these needs proactively between program/department management and HR, to develop integrated solutions. The HRBP will formulate partnerships across the HR function including recruiting, compensation, benefits and learning and development to deliver value-added service to management and employees that reflect the strategic goals of the organization.

     

    Key Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

    • Collaborate with program/department leadership to leverage a strong knowledge of business operations and people practices while strategically and proactively managing assigned client relationships
    • Provide on-going, high-level human resources advice in relation to program and organizational goals while reinforcing culture, mission and values of EDF
    • Participate in establishing overall goals, objectives and measurable outcomes as they relate to program/department partners
    • Lead and facilitate planning, implementation and communication of significant change, especially as it affects employees in assigned groups
    • Work with functional HR teams to determine the effectiveness of HR programs and policies;  recommend improvement to policies, programs, and procedures to improve human resources  and programmatic operations
    • Guide management and staff on questions and issues regarding general employee relations, counseling employees concerning work-related issues, as well as interpreting and applying company policies, procedures, practices, benefits, salary changes, etc.
    • Proactively manage and resolve complex employee relations issues. Conduct effective, thorough and objective investigations
    • Consult with managers to provide day-to-day performance management guidance to include coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions, etc.
    • Identify and recommend opportunities for increased effectiveness of current and diversity outreach recruiting programs
    • In conjunction with other HRBPs, ensure that policies and procedures are implemented consistently across all programs / departments, serve as an employee champion and change agent
    • Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. Partners with internal and external legal department as needed/required
    • Keep abreast of current EEO guidelines, human resources legislation and regulations, as well as changes in the human resources field.

     

    Qualifications

    • Minimum of 8 - 10 years’ experience in a human resources generalist role, with demonstrated experience working with diverse business units and across several HR disciplines including: organizational change, employee relations, diversity, performance management, recruiting, compensation
    • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
    • Firm understanding of human resources policies and procedures
    • Exposure to international human resources issues including recruiting, employment practices and expatriate policies and programs is highly desired
    • Excellent relationship management, consultative and project management skills
    • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral).
    • Ability to take initiative, make decisions, multitask, meet deadlines and work well under pressure.
    • Self-starter with high energy; ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Positive attitude and ability to remain flexible in an evolving environment.
    • Good judgment to manage sensitive and confidential matters.
    • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook; knowledge of HRIS and applicant tracking systems preferred (Workday a plus).
