With world attention on both the environment and the economy, Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) is where policymakers and business leaders turn for win-win solutions. By focusing on strong science, uncommon partnerships and market-based approaches, we tackle urgent threats with practical solutions. We are one of the world’s largest environmental organizations, with more than two million members and a staff of approximately 630 scientists, economists, policy experts, and other professionals around the world. We operate in 22 geographies with unique projects running across four programs. You will be part of a vibrant workplace that welcomes diverse perspectives, talents and contributions, where innovation and results are a way of life.
EDF pioneered the NGO/corporate partnership model and has proven its worth with measurable financial and environmental results across industries and business disciplines. We challenge businesses across the globe to take bold moves to adopt green practices and technologies that transform industries and improve the bottom line. Our partnerships achieve aggressive environmental goals - and set new industry standards. To multiply the benefits, we widely publicize the innovations, motivating competing companies to reach and exceed these new standards.
Air pollution kills nearly 5 million people a year and makes millions more sick. The burden of air pollution and climate change falls the hardest on vulnerable and disadvantaged groups, and this work aims to create win-win solutions to relieve this burden and help business and the environment prosper.
To date, we've done a poor job measuring and communicating the significance of air pollution, making solutions hard to implement and evaluate. However, new insights about local air pollution will make the problem personal and the status quo untenable. Pollution levels, sources and health impacts will be traced to the source, identifying opportunities to slash pollution and creating accountability. Newly empowered champions will build the public, private and political support needed to take action to protect people and the environment. Because the best actions will protect health and mitigate the risk of climate change, local insights can provide the springboard for local, regional, national and even global impact through widespread adoption in peer-to-peer networks.
Under the supervision of a Senior Manager on the EDF+Business team, the Analyst will play a significant role in supporting EDF's efforts to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution 25% by 2025. The Analyst will help conduct research, build the organization's knowledge base, develop strong partnerships, and communicate internally and externally.
Working on a dynamic team with colleagues from across EDF, the Analyst will design and execute research projects targeted at businesses and other key audiences to define the value of understanding and acting to address both climate change and air pollution. Over time, the Analyst will help transform this research into opportunities for collaboration with leading companies, innovators, cities and networks to enable commitments and accountability to reduce harmful pollution. The Manager will also assist EDF+Business in expanding innovation projects and best practices to other EDF programs.
Preferred location for this position is in EDF's Washington, DC office. EDF will consider other locations potentially on a case by case basis.
