Overall Function


Reporting to the Chief Human Resources Officer, the Associate Vice President of Diversity Equity & Inclusion, is responsible for creating and implementing a comprehensive Diversity Equity & Inclusion (DEI) plan for the global organization. The AVP will provide services, solutions and connections to enable a more engaged workforce, mirroring major green NGO's. This role will lead and manage all diversity and inclusion programs and initiatives, consult with internal and external partners as well as build DEI capability internally. The AVP of DEI has the opportunity to create pilots for DEI initiatives, drive DEI engagement through multiple stakeholders and develop DEI best practices.


Key Responsibilities


• Create a strategy to implement a comprehensive Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) plan

• Develop and implement DEI policies that are consistent worldwide while navigating the legal obstacles of implementing DEI initiatives in various countries

• Liaise with HR, Legal, and Finance teams to strengthen existing policies and practices with a racial equity and accessibility lens

• Build global diversity and inclusion programs and learn from global initiatives to enhance and strengthen the domestic programs

• Collaborate with all offices to develop appropriate DEI initiatives by location

• Support Talent Acquisition's strategic efforts in sourcing and attracting talent from underrepresented groups and partner with the Sr. Director, Talent Acquisition to effectively track, measure, and communicate initiatives

• Partner with the MarComm, Development and Talent Acquisition teams to regularly communicate internal and external diversity, equity and inclusion objectives, initiatives, events and progress

• Build the base for DEI communications to support program initiatives by utilizing goals and solid measurements

• Develop and implement an annual diversity report that includes data insights and strategic plans for growth

• Develop strategic tools, techniques, and training programs; ensure DEI training is tailored for staff in each country

• Work with a mix of local diversity and inclusion councils and employee resource groups

• Sponsor and lead the staff Diversity Committee to ensure alignment with the comprehensive DEI plan

• Research, construct and implement creative ways to engage staff to participate in DEI initiatives

• Manage direct reports and perform other duties as assigned

• Serve as EDF's representative for DEI



• Minimum of 15 years of experience, with at least 5 years in a strategic or operational DEI position

• Bachelor's Degree in related field required, Master's Degree preferred

• Excellent leadership skills, including a keen understanding of how to lead organizational change, empower people and influence colleagues

• Proven track record of implementing strategic initiatives, establishing metrics and measuring progress

• Strong conflict management and conflict resolution skills

• Strong knowledge of human resources management and employment law, including but not limited to EEO provisions;

• Excellent interpersonal, communications, critical thinking and organizational skills

• Non-profit experience and experience working across departments

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office skills, particularly in Word and Excel
