Program/Department Overview America's 900 million acres of farmland feed us, supply us with fuel and provide livelihoods for many. They can also be an essential ally in the fight against catastrophic climate change. Today, we have a unique opportunity to engage farmers in this fight by helping them transition to a more profitable, resilient and climate-smart industry. The NC A&T Intern will be hosted as part of the Climate-Smart Agriculture team in EDF's North Carolina office. The intern will contribute to our work on agricultural resilience, incentives to advance climate-smart practices, agriculture policy, and/or other topics that align with team goals. Examples of projects from past interns include: - Supporting a farm budget analysis of 3 small, diverse NC farms implementing practices that build resilience to climate change. - Analyzing a cover crop incentive program implemented through crop insurance to see whether a similar policy should be advanced in NC. Overall Function The intern will work with their manager to choose a central project that will be completed during the internship. This may include research support, potentially including 1-2 literature reviews. The intern will also support the design and implementation of meetings, workshops, and other opportunities to share information with partners. Near the end of the term, the intern will be expected to make a presentation on their work to the EDF staff. The manager will provide guidance and feedback throughout the internship and in advance of the final presentation.   Key Responsibilities Tasks will include but are not limited to: - Research and synthesis of information on topics related to ongoing projects that align with EDF program goals. This may take the form of literature reviews, short memos, or data collection. - Work with manager to identify knowledge gaps on selected topics. - Assist the manager in developing outreach and education activities to support the projects. - Participate in field visits and external meetings related to projects. - Prepare presentation that synthesizes work completed during summer term. Overall Function   The Senior Foundations Officer will lead the fundraising efforts for a select portfolio of foundation donors and prospects (six- to eight-figure gifts), as well as provide effective leadership to up-and-coming fundraising and administrative staff on the Institutional Giving team.   Department, Location, and Reporting   This position is part of the Institutional Giving team within EDF's Development Department.  This position can be located in EDF's Washington DC, New York, Boston, Austin, or Boulder office (with an option of geographic flexibility for the right candidate).   Key Responsibilities - Partner closely with program, finance, and executive staff to raise and manage six- to eight-figure gifts from foundations to support the work and mission of EDF. Overall Function   The Director, Development Communications reports to the Senior Director, Development Communications, and serves as an organizational leader in communications for current and prospective individual and institutional donors of at least $100,000. The director will work directly with Development, Program and Executive leadership, gift officers, and members of the Development Communications team to ensure that EDF’s major goals and strategies are articulated in a consistent and compelling manner for donor audiences.   The Director will work with the Senior Director to develop best practices and strategic vision for donor communications and mentor and provide guidance to other Development Communications team members. Location This position can be located in any of EDF’s offices (New York City preferred), with an option of geographic flexibility for the right candidate.   Overall Function  The Environmental Writer / Editor will join the team responsible for finding, researching, writing and occasionally editing stories for EDF's quarterly membership magazine and annual report. They will also be part of the team charged with creating and delivering a major upcoming digital editorial initiative. Working closely with the Content, Marketing, Membership and Development teams, this person will craft memorable, people-centered stories that illuminate EDF's successes, elevate our brand and expertise, and give our audiences the inside scoop on EDF and the most pressing environmental issues of the day. Our stories drive donations, reach new audiences and supercharge engagement with EDF's work.   We are looking for a seasoned reporter adept at finding new stories, exploring fresh angles on well told stories and distilling complex subjects into compelling narratives for a non specialist audience.  Overall Function The IT Business Analyst will be responsible for acting as a liaison between EDF's business users and technologists. This individual must develop a good understanding of both business and technology processes to be able to explain the business needs to the technology teams. Through our work in the U.S., Latin America, and Asia Pacific, we draw on strong science and economic principles to advance sustainable fishing practices, forward-looking policies and innovative tools that support the health of our oceans and the people who depend on them for food and their livelihoods.   OVERALL FUNCTION   The Senior Specialist, Fisheries Community Engagement, will support the Climate Resilient Fisheries & Oceans team's efforts to engage and empower global fishery practitioners and fishing community members with greater agency to build equitable, just, and climate-resilient futures. The role will focus on supporting engagement with small-scale fishing communities and local organizations around the world, including within the United States, Latin America and Asia Pacific. The Senior Specialist will apply a human-centered approach to advance and expand EDF's suite of fisheries tools and capacity development initiatives to better serve diverse audiences. The Senior Specialist will work closely with EDF regional teams and partner organizations to understand coastal community member's perspectives, needs and challenges, and will work collaboratively to design and deliver capacity building products and engagements. Projects will include adapting EDF tools and products for greater user accessibility, developing guidance on fostering greater inclusion in participatory processes, and developing frameworks through which equity and environmental justice issues can be more deliberately integrated into fishery decision-making. The Senior Specialist will also support EDF's fisheries leadership development programs for local leaders to increase community capacity to build climate-resilient, equitable, and just fishery systems. This position can be fully remote   The Zero-Emission Truck Initiative aims to accelerate the clean energy transition in the heavy-duty vehicles sector. We do this by securing transformational, durable public policies that will drive the long-term turnover in the vehicle stock; and partnering with fleets to increase near-term truck and bus deployments. GEOSPATIAL ANALYST Variable or Remote (San Francisco, CA, Austin, TX, New York, NY, Washington, DC, Boston, MA, Boulder, CO)   MethaneSAT, LLC, an affiliate of Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) is launching a high performance, purpose-built satellite--MethaneSAT--to map and measure oil and gas methane emissions worldwide, with the potential to assess emissions from the full range of man-made sources. The satellite will enable us to gather methane emissions data on a global scale and with data from other sources, locate and quantify these emissions. Data from MethaneSAT will help EDF reduce methane emissions by 45% by 2025 and holds the potential to help reduce the temperature of our planet by as much as 0.5 degrees C by the end of the century. This could be the most impactful environmental project yet conceived.   Overall Function MethaneSAT, LLC is seeking a Geospatial Analyst with proven geospatial analytical and research skills in support of a major satellite mission to advance the development of source attribution of methane emissions from the global oil and gas sector using geospatial data and analytics. The Geospatial Analyst will be a key team member in the MethaneSAT team and will work closely with EDF's Office of the Chief Scientist and EDF scientists, technologists and external partners from academia and industry on the development of a global oil and gas infrastructure database as well as source attribution studies and data analytics related to the MethaneSAT mission. The Geospatial Analyst will work on interdisciplinary projects at the intersection of large-scale datasets, geospatial analytics, remote sensing, and machine learning. The Energy Transition Team seeks to reduce oil and gas methane emissions 45% from 2012 levels by the end of 2025. Our long-term vision is that effective government policies and industry practices will virtually eliminate methane emissions from the global oil and gas industry, thereby reducing total anthropogenic methane emissions by approximately one-third. Our goal of reducing oil and gas methane emissions 45% by 2025 represents a first, critical step toward achieving this vision.   OVERALL FUNCTION   EDF seeks a talented and self-motivated Manager, Regulatory and Legislative Affairs, Appalachia to play a critical role in the development and execution of EDF's methane regulatory campaigns in Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Virginia. The Manager will be responsible for achieving policy goals by helping create and manage strategic coalitions and relationships with industry, regulators, policy makers, opinion leaders, community groups and other environmental NGOs. They will be deployed frequently to target states in the Appalachian region and will serve as a day-to-day point of contact for our in-state resources.
